What's hot reading with your HS students right now?

I'm interested in sharing what new titles are especially popular with your high school students NOW.
Popular new titles with our students are:
Epic by Conor Kostick, a Brit (so this title won't make PA Young Readers Choice list) helped design on the first virtual reality games at a castle in England when he was 18. The novel is sci fi / fantasy and takes place in a world where a virtual reality game determines who gets certain resources and resolves disputes. Real violence is outlawed. It's well-written.

Luxe is popular, too, mostly with girls. It's sort of a gossip girls set at the turn of the last century. Not particularly literate, but a quick, fun read.

Yes, Twilight is very hot at my HS, too! I just got Stephenie Meyer's newest, Host. It's an adult title, but reviews look like it will be appropriate for YAs also. I'll read that one over the summer!

Some of my students recently introduced me to a series by Maria Snyder...Poison Study is the first. Fire Study came out in March and they were so excited when it came in! There's a group that will pass that one around over the summer since they didn't all get to read it during the school year.

I'm currently reading, Princess Ben (same author as Dairy Queen) and really like it so far! It will be one I booktalk in the fall. Kids who liked Harry Potter will be interested since she's learning magic.

Another one of interest is the dead& the gone (how very t.s. eliot!) which is a companion novel to Pfeffer's Life as We Knew It (an astroid hitting the moon story). This one is supposed to be "darker". You can read more on the author's blog.

A graduating senior is loving Host!

I loved Dairy Queen and The Off Season by Murdock--can't wait to try Princess Ben
and I know I ordered the dead and the gone---Life as We Knew It was awesome so I will probably get to it in the fall. Right now, I have a box and 1/2 of books consisting of nonfiction, biography and realistic, multicultural and historical fiction to read this summer and share with my friends on the beach.
Right now I am reading Life of Pi (a teacher chose 30 books for her CP class next year and didn't want to do classics) and last week finished Water for Elephants and probably next Green Glass Sea and I think I will have read all 30 of her titles so we can get criticisms, themes, threads together in the fall.

Is Poison Study horror, scifi?

I will read and enjoy just about anything!
