We, at Upper Merion Area HS, have also gone completely one-to-one this fall and I am just as busy as ever! When they removed all the computers from the library I was in shock, but as Joyce Valenza says, "laptops have legs" and the students are walking in and out all day with their laptops. Teachers I have always collaborated with are still scheduling their classes to come into the library. Busy with business as usual so far! I revamped my web page to make it easier to navigate and subscribed to WebFeat, the federated search engine. This summer I presented two workshops with our Tech Integrator on Creative Projects and emphasized the importance using of quality resources in the planning Creative projects. I think this made more teachers aware of the online databases and my role in assisting them in these projects. We also have Professional Learning Communities, I try to share ideas there as well. More later!

We (Oil City Senior High School) have begun our one-to-one quest in earnest and it is awesome! I have been teaching at lease two full days a week. I was afraid that I would never get to collaborate again but I'm working with teachers and students more than ever...I'm loving it. Kids and teachers walk into the library with their laptops to ask for help and for instruction. Two thirds of the instruction has been done in their classrooms.

Oh how I wish we did not have filtering on our computers or at least that the filtering was much more relaxed. So many good things to do with Web 2.0 for the kids. If I were a principal, I suppose I'd better understand it!

Our One-to-One HP Minis are being rolled out. The first time I used it, I started to get a headache almost immediately, but now I really like it. The screen is very small, but the BIG advantage is that the minis are SMALL enough to be carried with a notebook without any hassle. I'm pretty excited. Our admin has rolled out 3 docs as well...Policy for Use of Technology, Parent/Student Laptop Handbook, Technology Resource Use Agreement. If you want to see them, let me know. Can I attach docs here?

I agree with Kim. I feel so frustrated when I find out that a student is failing a class or an assignment whom I could have helped if I had been given the chance to collaborate! Just yesterday this happened. It is a real challenge to forge these relationships/bonds with teachers. It isn't just a matter of making sure that we don't "lose" our jobs--the kids NEED US! Teachers need us too--it's just a matter of getting them to realize it.

We have been a one-to-one school for a number of years. I think the biggest issue is getting teachers to see the relevance of the library.

I'm not sure about the best way to make a comment...the last one I made didn't appear on the lineup. Anyway, I visited a one-to-one school in Latrobe. Kim Riebel, the libn, said that a big issue with her lib is finding enough outlets for kids to recharge their computer batteries. She said she recommends ten outlets and many power strips.

Hello, Sharon! I managed to finally get signed up for our ning. I'm excited about collaborating with our new one-to-one computing friends. Enjoy dinner.
